After I began discussing a run for the state Assembly with several of my friends, they asked if I had lost my mind. I am happily married, I have two great kids, 2 wonderful grandkids, I have a great job, and I enjoy living comfortably here in northern Nevada. Why would I want to sacrifice time with my family, give up relaxing weekends, and inconvenience my employer?
The incumbent cast the decising vote for the largest tax increase in state history. He took a "no new taxes" pledge and broke the promise again in the last session.
Nationally, Democrats are already promising to raise our taxes over $330 billion. Democrats in the Nevada legislature are also promising billions in new taxes. At a time when grocery prices are soaring, gas prices are nearly $4.00 per gallon, and Nevada leads the country in foreclosures, Nevada Democrats want to add a 1% gross receipts tax on Nevada businesses to be passed directly on to you.
Over 20 years ago, I joined the Republican Party because Ronald Reagan promised a rebirth of the American spirit. Then, like now, our economy was in the bottom of the tank and Americans feared for the future. Reagan told us that government is not the solution to our problem, he told us that government IS the problem. He cut taxes, restored American pride and led us into the longest sustained period of economic growth in our nation’s history. Why don’t we just follow this example?
If elected, my first job as a legislator will be to build a coalition of statesmen to prioritize the tasks of state government, repeal egregious regulations, control state spending, and stop unfunded mandates on local governments. As a lame duck politician, the incumbent offers no plan except the same tired old politics. I offer a vision for the future.
